This song might stand out from the others so I want to briefly explain why I chose the song for this page. This page is about comparison and contrast between the first and second reflections, therefore I wanted a song that had noticeably similar or different speed or pitch changes. Hence, I chose The Midnight's Helvetica because there are multiple pitch and speed changes that contrast with one another. For example, the song slows down at the 23-second mark, lowering the pitch of the percussion and the synthesizer instrument, and speeds up at the 39-second mark, raising the pitch of the percussion and synthesizer. This sudden contrast between speed and pitch of the instruments, and others throughout the song, provides a tone of contrast. Thus, it helps contribute to the effect of the page's purpose, which is to look at the reflections and discuss their similarities and differences.

EVALUATION

The first and second reflections are stated below. The comparison and contrast of the reflections is located under them.

FIRST REFLECTION

"A meaningful life is simply defined, but, also in contrast, thoroughly defined by the process of stepping back and evaluating one’s own subjectivity towards it. Feelings, thoughts, successes, failures, etc. have to be examined. How did you feel experiencing a certain activity? Happy? Invigorated? Empty? Anxious? Your train of thought or thoughts themselves, what were they like? Did you think about how much you yearned to depart? To remain? Did any marvelous or adequate triumphs arise from the activity? Did they improve any trait or skill or characteristic about you? Did your failures amount to anything grand or quaint? Did they teach you anything significant?"

SECOND REFLECTION

"A meaningful life is defined through voicing ourselves to the world. We act confident, by standing straight and not worrying too much about your appearance in terms of clothing. We make great efforts, by standing even taller than before and speaking aloud to others. Confidence and making great efforts in order to voice ourselves so we may find meaning in our life. The purpose of our life is to ultimately become a person or truly human. Our lives are spent going through the notions of moving from city to city, finding love, gaining a career, etc. All of it is for driving us to that goal of becoming a person. This includes realizing what that feeling of true satisfaction is, what it feels like to be fulfilled with one's life. However, we will never get there because we are always changing. We change what career we pursue, where we settle down, and who we want to be with. So, we, and generations that come after us, will continue this circling path of trying to eventually become a person, and we cannot escape this part of our nature. But we can at least try to become a person, fulfill ourselves, and attain a meaningful life. We can look on our past regrets and accept them. We can pursue our passion to get to voice ourselves."

Looking at my first reflection and then at my second reflection, I noticed a couple of differences and a similarity between both versions of my worldview.

First, there is the difference in how I defined a meaningful life. The first reflection states that a meaningful life is defined by looking back on the failures, successes, feelings, and thoughts that we have experienced. I had formed this view because I would define my life by looking back on the actions I had committed and what I had said in the past in order to determine if they were leading me toward a life I would ultimately be satisfied with. Then, upon reading the second reflection, my worldview had changed and deepened considerably. Not only had I shifted my view, from looking back on the past and into voicing yourself to the world, but I also communicated aspects of the worldview, which were how we get to voice ourselves and why we do it. I believe this drastic shift in the definition of my worldview and the intensity I applied to understanding my redefined worldview came from constant contemplation. Whether it was a walk through the black of night or sitting under the fluorescent lights of my room, I would use that time to think about how I could redefine my worldview. When contemplating the superior definition of my worldview, I resorted to thinking pragmatically, which meant I would formulate a goal that I and others in the world have set, which is to voice ourselves, and determine notions that people would adopt to reach that goal, which is acting confident and making great efforts. I then began to wonder about the purpose of this goal and so I dug beneath that goal and examined the purpose of reaching it, which is to become a person or feel fulfilled. Overall, I seem to have developed upon my worldview substantially and how I have defined a meaningful life, due to the numerous changes I made between reflections. I also have learned how to form my worldview through thinking of a goal commonly set by others, notions taken to achieve the goal, and the purpose behind the goal.

One more difference that I noticed was the amount of text for each reflection and the depth of their content. In the first reflection, I only had written 105 words that stated the general idea of what my worldview was and did not demonstrate a deep understanding of it. It did not demonstrate a deep understanding because I was mainly proposing questions that only addressed evaluating your past rather than also contemplating the present, the purpose behind the worldview, and other aspects of the worldview. Then, with the second reflection, I wrote 224 words of a more realized worldview since it avoided merely asking questions about one aspect and instead discussed and defined two aspects and the purpose behind the worldview. Therefore, the differing amount of words and depth of content between reflections again proves how much I have developed upon my worldview, but also shows that I am adopting a part of my worldview into my life, which is making great efforts. On the "Altered Perspective" page, I had stated that making great efforts is like standing on the tips of your toes, that making that extra effort and pushing yourself helps you get to voicing yourself to others. I believe that I was doing that with the change in my worldview. I constructed an initial worldview and was not satiated with the bareness of its definition. I decided to then use most of the semester to heavily contemplate and reconstruct my worldview. The worldview image on the "Altered Perspective" page, with the paragraphs of explanation behind the image, and the songs on the "Deeper Understanding" page, with the substantial explanation of each song, reflect the amount and depth of thinking I applied to understanding my worldview. Ultimately, the increased amount and depth of content from the first to second reflection shows both the development I have made upon my worldview and how I am already applying parts of my worldview to my own life.

The single similarity that I noticed was that both reflections maintained the same focus. With the first reflection, it was defining a meaningful life through looking back on the past and assessing it, and the second reflection was defining a meaningful life through voicing ourselves to the world. Both reflections retained the focus of formulating a worldview that defined a meaningful life. This represents how I am dedicated to reaching a life where I feel satisfied or fulfilled. While I was redefining my worldview, I was thinking of how I would find meaning and lead myself to satisfaction. I considered many different goals like finding a good intimate partner, obtaining a career that would financially secure me, and moving to a city where my career and my partner would best fit in. Eventually, I figured out that these all contributed to a broader goal and hence were part of the purpose of that goal, which is to become a person. From there, I thought of how we become a person, and the way I viewed it was that we voice ourselves to the world. Overall, the similarity of the reflections shows how I was determined to define how to obtain a meaningful life.

Let us now move on to the final page of the website, where I will draw conclusions about myself and my worldview.
